2 Quality Mind Hacks

So much of wellness is mindset.

You control your mind, your mind does not control you. Pause for a minute and think about what that really means. You control your mind. Your mind does not control you.

Such a simple statement, but when you start to realize what that means to you and your future - well, everything just got a little brighter, didn't it?

Visualize a wide open dessert. You are on one side of this vast desert and your life is the journey across the desert to a final destination. That final destination where you will look

back at your life and see who you were, what you accomplished, who you loved, what you experienced and who you helped. If you change nothing from today forward, you will end up living basically the quality of life you have at this point in time. But if you change the trajectory of where you are headed by just a very small percentage today, and again tomorrow, and again after that – you will end up with a totally different journey which will result in a totally different destination. A journey and a destination of your own making.

Even small changes make a big difference.

There are two very powerful techniques I learned from Tony Robbins – oh my gosh – thirty years ago now. I’ve used them so often they have really become a part of how my mind works. Like an automated go-to way of thinking. Tony inspired my lifetime infatuation with understanding what motivates people and how to take steps to create the life of my dreams. I will give you the tools, techniques and encouragement to help you build yours.

Let's get started today!

Two of my favorite techniques, or mind hacks are:

  1. Ask yourself better quality questions. Your mind will work diligently for answers. When you ask poor questions you get poor answers, and a poor life experience. An example “why am I so tired all of the time?” – the answers your brain gives you back will tell you why. When you ask quality questions, you get quality answers. A better questions “what do I need to do to have more energy”? – the answers your brain gives you back will actually be helpful, something you can actually take action on and improve your circumstance. Another example, if you are asking yourself 'why am I always broke?' then you know what is going to happen, your mind is going to tell you why you are always broke - because you have lousy luck, because you don't get paid enough, because the cost of gas is too high. Not very empowering. Not very helpful. But if you ask yourself 'How can I increase my income and have fun doing it?' - you are going to get better answers. Keep asking yourself that high quality question and you will get high quality answers, and in my experience, for a question like that - in a week or two, great ideas will come to you.

  2. Know your outcome. When you know your outcome, your subconscious will work towards that end. If you are going to coffee with a friend and you know your outcome is to be supportive and listen to her story, then you will. If you are going into the grocery store and your outcome is to get in and out as quickly as possible, then you will. If your outcome is to get your grocery list filled and spend as little as possible, then you will look at the prices. If your outcome is to go into a meeting and listen well and take good notes, then you will. If your outcome is to have a nice dinner with your family and really connect with them and have fun. In each of these scenarios, your chances of having the experience you would like are much more likely when you think about your outcome rather than just walk into a situation without having bothered to think about it at all. Super simple technique and it works.

Here are your challenges for today and beyond:

  1. Listen to the questions you ask yourself. You have constant inner dialog - pay attention and resist being on auto-pilot. You will begin to be aware of the questions you ask yourself. Practice restating them to be more powerful. Typically questions that start with 'how' or 'what' are much better than those that start with 'why'. You will be surprised with the more powerful answers that come back to you.

  2. What is on your to-do list today? Tomorrow? Pick one or two and be intentional with what you would like the outcome to be.

  3. Get a notebook. Write these techniques down, keep track of what happens when you try them for a week or two. I will be sharing everything I've learned and experienced. You will have favorites. Keep track.

Practice these techniques consistently and you will be changing the trajectory of your life, begin to live on your terms, building what you desire.
