If Self-discipline begins with the mastery of your thoughts. If you don’t control what you think, you can’t control what you do. Then how do you master your thoughts?
You master your thoughts by mastering your attitude. Attitude begins with a state of mind, a mindset How you physically feel also plays a big part.
Create your own approach or choose from the following:
Build a morning ritual that gets your day off on the right start. A few ideas for your ritual are: start with morning gratitude, set a positive intention for the day, visualize the accomplishment of your goals, remind yourself that nothing is going to happen today that you cannot handle with grace. Pay attention during the day to how many times you have a negative emotional response to other people, things that happen, or your own thoughts. These are not in line with your vision. Change those thoughts to new thoughts that make you feel better. Simple things like changing ‘I have to do this’ to ‘I choose to do this’ is an example of changing your thoughts to something new that makes you feel different inside, better inside.
It is common for us to have habitual negative feelings, or reliving a negative encounter or event. Let go of that negativity, it is not serving you and is very likely hindering your forward momentum.
Fresh air, exercise, even a short walk around the block where you focus – not on all the to-do’s or stresses of the day – but focus on gratitude or focus simply on your breath. Your mind, body, and soul react to your focus and your focus is a choice you make every minute of every day. Make a choice that is in your own best interest. Focus on those things that bring you joy: your relationships, moments of solitude, nature, memories, visualization.
Choose to appreciate the journey not only the final destination. It is who we become in the pursuit of our goals that is important, becoming that person is the process and you can enjoy that process from day 1.
Your challenge is to take action and set an intention to become more aware of the thoughts you think each day and how they make you feel. Choose some of the actions above and begin the habit of thinking better thoughts and feeling better every day.
